Located in the heart of the city near the train station, in the premises previously occupied for 30 years by Guitart, Godinho Handcrafted Guitars primarily make, repair, restore, and set-up, acoustic and electric guitars, and other stringed instruments.
Owned by Joao Godinho, a master luthier for more than 21 years, the business services professional and amateur musicians and offers an eclectic range of secondhand instruments, all optimised for playability and guaranteed. Consignments are welcome.
We can help your instrument reward your playing; fromchanging strings to resetting necks, gluing bridges, repairing binding, re-frets, making saddles, carving nuts, correcting dinks, and solving electrical gremlins.
This is not a shop, but we sell guitars, reluctantly.
The primary aspect of our business is repairing and optimising the playability of your guitar. Because the structure of guitars are affected by the enormous tension of the strings, humidity and temperature, the quality of build, and how it is cared for, we understand that fixing problems is mostly what you want us to do.
But the right number of guitars to own is one more than you already have.
We all love collecting guitars, and it’s a fact that instruments improve with age, so buying secondhand is often an upgrade on what you already have. We love used and vintage instruments, and when you buy one from us, it will set-up perfectly, re-strung, guaranteed.
We can also get you started with an exciting new range of guitars from the Irish builder, George Lowden. The ‘Sheeran by Lowden’ models are all solid wood, fitted with electrics, mid-medium hundreds price point, and ideal for home and professional use. After all, they are used by Ed Sheeran himself.
Again, we closely inspect any instrument you buy, and if you want to trade-up, we provide a consignment service to help move your guitar onto a new musician.
That special project…
Way before big manufacturers created their ‘custom shops’, Luthiers like Joao took orders from guitarists who didn’t want standard; and today you can select different woods, electronics, parts, pickups, specify the perfect neck carve, maybe 2 necks, and you can get that and more from Godinho Handcrafted Guitars. Our onsite state of the art CNC and high end luthier equipment will precision shape some parts of your project, which will then be finished by hand, with the finish of your choice. Shiny or relic’d, you won’t be disappointed.
Listen, watch, and learn
Our clients include Luxembourg’s best guitarists, who give master-classes in our performance auditorium. This includes their tricks and techniques, and expertreviews of vintage and modern guitars and amps.
So lets talk tone together. Come and see us, message us on Facebook, or phone. Take a coffee, hang-out, sit on the couch, try anything in stock, browse guitar books, or just watch the dark arts of working wood and steel. If the door is locked, ring the bell, we’ll in the workshop.
You’ll love it. As we said at the start, this isn’t a shop, but we sell guitars.
